Open-source AI junior developer that turns GitHub issues directly into pull requests. Around 6,000 GitHub stars.

Sweep works end to end on a GitHub issue rather than suggesting code line by line the way Copilot does: it reads the relevant parts of a codebase, understands the request in the issue or ticket, plans the necessary changes, and opens a pull request, then responds to review comments on its own PRs as a human reviewer would push back or ask for changes.

Tagging an issue with Sweep: is enough to trigger a full automated attempt, and it also ships as a plugin for JetBrains IDEs, bringing the same inline completions, test generation, and static-analysis feedback into an interactive editing session rather than only an asynchronous GitHub workflow. It covers a fairly wide set of languages, including Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Go, C#, C++, and Rust.

With around 6,000 GitHub stars, it's a respected name in the autonomous coding agent space, available as a hosted service or for self-hosting, and it occupies a similar niche to tools like OpenHands: a fully automated attempt at closing simple, well-scoped issues without human intervention at every step.
