Open-source terminal assistant living inside your tmux session, reading all your panes to help without needing a special shell or wrapper.

TmuxAI integrates directly into an existing tmux setup rather than requiring a special shell, wrapper, or new terminal application. It reads the content across all of a user's panes in real time, acting something like a colleague watching over a shoulder, and when given permission, can execute commands in a separate pane dedicated to its own actions.

It works with zero configuration across nested shells, SSH sessions, database CLIs, and network device consoles, which matters because a lot of terminal AI tools break the moment a workflow gets unusual. Its operating modes range from Observe, the quiet default, to Watch, which proactively monitors a session and suggests improvements, with a history-squashing feature that keeps context manageable over long sessions.

It's open source under the Apache 2.0 license, runs cross-platform on Windows, macOS, Linux, and FreeBSD, and defaults to OpenRouter's Gemini 2.5 Flash while supporting OpenAI, Anthropic, or local models through Ollama as alternatives.
