JetBrains AI is built into JetBrains' whole IDE lineup, IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, CLion, and the rest, sharing one subscription and credit pool rather than requiring a separate purchase per IDE. It covers code completion, generation, chat, test generation, and documentation, all with the kind of deep language awareness JetBrains IDEs are already known for independent of AI.
Junie is its autonomous agent, able to plan, write, test, and self-correct multi-file changes with less turn-by-turn guidance than the chat interface needs. Underneath, JetBrains blends its own proprietary Mellum model with OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and local models through Ollama or LM Studio, letting it route different kinds of requests to whichever model handles them best rather than betting entirely on one provider.
It's a natural upsell for JetBrains' large existing user base, who already pay for the IDEs themselves, giving JetBrains a genuine distribution advantage over AI-only competitors that have to win developers over to a new editor entirely.
