Cody is Sourcegraph's AI coding assistant, and its main advantage over general-purpose coding assistants is Sourcegraph's code graph: a deep, context-aware index that understands how code relates across many repositories, not just the one currently open. That makes it better suited to large organizations with sprawling, interconnected codebases than to a single developer working on one small project.
Inside VS Code or JetBrains, Cody supports chat about existing code, inline edits, batch changes across files, documentation and test generation, and code navigation, all informed by that multi-repo context. Cody Enterprise adds the compliance layer large companies actually ask for: zero code retention, audit logs, guardrails, SOC 2, GDPR and CCPA compliance, SSO and SAML, and the option to self-host or run single-tenant, along with bring-your-own-key support for picking the underlying model.
Sourcegraph shifted Cody to enterprise-only pricing in 2025, dropping the free and individual tiers that once let smaller teams try it, a sign of the company doubling down on large organizations as its core market rather than competing broadly for individual developer mindshare.
